This game is pretty fun it would be even cooler if there's visual art of the characters, I'm personally enjoys this type of games more when there's at least drawing of the character to help with the immersion while reading.
Okay... I've rescued everyone, my morale's at 100, and I've completed eleven side quests... should I keep hunting for side content or can I move onto Mimi without worrying about extra content?
MERCANOID started life as a single scene (the Gulper bad end, actually) that I wrote to entertain myself on a trip away from home, aaaand things spiralled from there.
Not presently, no, sorry. Don't have the design chops required to redesign this UI to play nicely on a mobile format. It works on a tablet in landscape as-is, but phones would require a signficant overhaul that's beyond me.
ok i just finished the game and overall i loved it but a couple of gripes
1. the game doesn't really explain stats i have no idea what sex appeal or intimidation does don't know how dodge or defense function or are calculates so its a lot of stuff has stats i don't know what those stats do, if they are insignificant or op
2. elemental damage is a system you cant use without knowing the elemental weaknesses and/or resistances of the enemies and far as i see there is no way to find that out making it an almost pointless system
3. skills skills are useful maybe 1-3 times each this is primarily due to the size of the game but when each skill does so little they feel unimportant the only skill you use a lot is handiwork for upgrading weapons (i rarely used consumables but that probably had something to do with the fact i was on a low difficulty) also we don't know what the highest skill req is meaning we might pump up a skill way beyond what is needed wasting sill points which would be bad if skills were important which they are not, so maybe add a max skill level?
4.tell us the max level so we can plan out a build knowing our limit
5.maybe have the training enemy show the damage calculation so you can go there to learn what to expect from attacks and weapon
yeah my biggest problems are a lack of ways for the player to find out bout game mechanics and the size of the game making certain game mechanics shallow
but overall fun game fun story looking forward to if you have anything else to make
even though i have 2 handiwork skill i cant give a zipper arm cannon a core booster says i have insufficient handiwork but it says it only requires 2 and before then it wasnt until i got more mats than needed that the message switched from not enough resources to not enough handiwork
It's randomized every time you play. You need to find the individual portions of the code, all of which can be found in the northern sector past the firs Checkpoint gate.
I just stumbled upon this the other day and 100%'d it as soon as I could! It was an absolute pleasure to play, and I think it really builds upon some similar gameplay structures like that of TiTs or LT. The writing was by far my favorite part, each scenario was so well written, and the characters were so much fun ^^
Go to the Repair module back in the storage module! It's under those options, as mentioned by B4B3. Repair > Fantasize, as it's a method of restoring Focus.
You can either get it done with quickly, or use it as a thematic link to the gallery - hence, the Fantasize menu. Also thematically reframes them as fantasies, which can make some more hardcore content more digestible for some people.
Pregnancy themes appear in a few Bad End scenes. You can unlock these for viewing at any time by beating their related encounters... or by losing to them, but this may cut your journey short!
There is no impregnation/pregnancy/birthing content outside of these scenes, given the scope of the game and the limited timeframe in which it takes place. you're well catered for, however: at a rough count, I think at least five scenes contain breeding as a theme.
This is a great game! Scope is limited enough that it actually finishes (with Epilogue!) and since beating an encounter unlocks the loss scenes, there's no need to throw fights to see the content.
If I could add one thing, it would be lovense integration. (Or better yet, a Tentaco-brand peripheral custom made to let you really feel what your character does.)
Can't say I've ever run across any Twine games with that sort of integration before! Wouldn't know where to start. As for a truly authentic TentaCo peripheral, that would require funding and some superscience, alas.
Envious because I am in the process of writing the same kind of story. Ecstatic because that's a really, really good game, with much more content and fluff that I expected.
I'll give a full review once I've finished the game, but for now I have a lot of fun.
Oh, I'm sorry! For some reason itch.io flagged this as spam but didn't actually bother telling me, I only found it because I was poking around the deeper tabs of my analytics
Once you've gained the quest, one of the Hab rooms - Selene tells you to go there, but has forgotten which one - contains a mass of hive-flesh with her case embedded in it. It puts you in a little gathering minigame to retrieve it. You then bring it back.
Thank you for your most excellent writing and for sharing it here! Be sure I shall contribute as soon as possible, in whatever way great or small I can.
For awhile yet, my thanks and my 5 star rating will have to suffice. Have a grand day <3
N'aw, glad you enjoyed it so thoroughly! Rating (which I see you did! Thank you ♥) and sharing both go a long way to helping. I'm starting to cook up something new, but I'm working on a new module for the framework first!
Have you fixed the scrapping bug? where some items (like the monitor/computer) cannot drop under 1 when scrapped, allowing you to get essentially infinite materials for as long as your carpal tunnel can sustain it
Nnnno, because no one reported it! I wasn't aware this was a thing. That's odd, they're all using the same system, so that shouldn't be happening... If you could, could you let me know which items are affected? I'll take a look. Could you also let me know what version of the game you encountered this in, given that from your post it seems like this was something you ran into a while ago? I just booted up a quick test area, gave myself a bunch of Busted Terminals, and they scrapped and deleted just fine. Maybe I did fix this!
Just beat it- took about six hours, according to itch- and got the good ending. It's a really good game, and if I had one complaint it's that unless I'm missing something you can't refight most bosses without keeping a save before triggering the battle. It feels like there's stuff I've missed, which is decent in terms of replayability but since I explored most every corner I could that makes it less exciting in terms of story. I feel like maybe exp rates should be pushed down a bit by default for normal mode, it felt like I was getting level ups pretty quickly (and I finished at level cap), but altogether that's all my critique. Like I said, it's good and I enjoyed it. My favorite scene was the initial testing of the new program with B4B3, and I wound up using the bow since I prioritized dex and dodging. Didn't need to do any modding, since I wound up not having any bits when I looked into it. Thank you for your work!
And thank you for playing, along with the critique! ♥
I will be honest, I didn't consider that people might want to re-fight bosses, as their scenes are unlocked afterwards anyway. I'll consider it!
Exp rates were actually increased when I reduced the encounter rate, with the intention being to mob the player less, but with slightly stronger enemies that would punish you for just spamming Attack through them. The player is free to adjust exp and 'gold' values to their liking in the options, so I'm leaning towards a relatively easy normal mode for the sake of people usually not wanting to be taxed too much in their pursuit of smut.
That scene with B4B3 is a firm favourite of mine too!
The Bits economy is a little in shambles, which is why I added two static scrappable objects in the first sector of the game. It does limit the creation and modding the player can get up to, but I hope that creates a bit of decision-making in the process!
I haven't played very much of the game yet, but it's great so far! I wonder... since the tentacle monsters you encouter are all to breed the player character, would it be possible to implement some kind of transformation that "futafies" the character to make them spread the tentacle seed?
Probably not happening, I'm afraid. It's a little too niche and would be relegated either to a single bad end, or would require a lot of checks added to existing content. But I'm glad you're enjoying the game!
I was looking for something quick to play last night and I actually found myself having to come back to this today. It was much longer than what I expected but it was worth it. Even minus all the smut the game is very engaging, which is something that's pretty hard to achieve in my opinion, but it's all for the best.
I will admit I felt kinda guilty skipping over all the sex scene text as writing seems to be your primary area of expertise but nonetheless I found the story captivating and seeing M10 through her mission and earning her a satisfying ending was enough to keep me going. Maybe that's actually a compliment, I don't know? It means you have a perfectly functional plot and that's a good thing to aspire for.
The combat was also definitely functional. Wasn't the most intricate web of mechanics and interactions I've ever had to untangle, but that's not really the point of the game, is it? Had the game on the strict level cap and Hard all the way and I did lose to Mimi once, but on the second time around better preparation is all it took (finished at level 8). I didn't find much use for a weapon other than the Hull Cleanser but maybe that's because I had already invested enough upgrades into it and getting more Bits was proving to be rather difficult.
As a final note, it would be nice being able to modify weapons without unequipping them. Sure, it's for immersion, but I think it's not worth the inconvenience of having to unequip the weapon, modify it, then equip it again considering the slight pauses the game does whenever you perform an action.
Other than that, the game does manage to pull off everything it wants to and I can say for sure those were some well-spent hours. Good job!
Thank you very much for your in-depth thoughts, and I'm glad you enjoyed MERCANOID!
While a lot of effort did go into the smut, an equal amount of effort went into character and story, so I don't really mind at all. ♥ As for combat, it's my hope that it's more engaging than just mashing Attack, but without veering into puzzle territory for every single fight - it sounds like that balance has been struck nicely with you. But interesting, something I've found in feedback is different people swear by different weapons, which is great to read for a game with a much more limited sandbox to future projects I have in mind with larger scope.
On the topic of modification: Pauses? Do you mean when you're opening Dialogs, like the inventory windows? I've not encountered any delay in those, so that's a little odd. As for this limitation - it was done to cut down on any bugs that might've occurred on my end from actively adjusting a weapon's stats whilst equipped, as well as shaving the Modification scripts a little. But I'll keep it in mind.
got through 95% of this but can't figure out Meh and don't want to hit the boss without 100%ing the rescues. Any general guidance on what the interesting information is?
an interesting game, kinda reminds me of trials in tainted space and the Alien franchise, not to mention magic combined with techlogy, thats rare. Since sleep and rest are possible options, i assume the player might become human in the future? could make the scenes more interesting.
And please don't take this the wrong way but seing such situations in games and movies, makes me always a bit unease, having to think of a certain aspect
Mm! MERCANOID is a far-flung future glimpse at a much bigger world that I'm going to be working in. By this era, it's a melting point of mutant post-humans, fae, and aliens.
Sleep and Rest are actually present due to this game being built on a framework I've created for making future titles in. I originally dummied them out when creating Mio's personalized Android-specific options, but then I thought it added some interesting flavour to leave them in.
Not taken the wrong way at all! But rest assured, I'm striving not to make things uncomfortable. I might toy with horror angles here and there, but it's for lewd purposes, not surprise malice. ♥
For obvious reasons, children are not present at a tentacle monster production facility, so no worries there. Any such underage content or even implications is never happening from me.
of course, thus me saying don't get it wrong. i just meant in general. Children trapped on a station/ship with a monster like a xenomorph, would be the worst for them. sex apart, it would be most likekly the same situation for them here, scared out of their minds
Just finished the game yesterday, I was quite pleased to see it was a completed game for once. I find the pixel art style pretty well done for the very few illustrations in the game. I think you could have spared some time to make simple sprites to help us visualize how th enemies look, but that's a minor gripe.
It was a fun experience, and it was nice to actually have some real RPG and combat elements in it instead of just a few choices in an otherwise kinetic text game. I was afraid the story would quickly branch out and become overly complex for its sake, but it's actually a fairly straighforward and self-contained story that's easy to follow.
I appreciate the fact that you unlock the sex scenes on winning the fights, unlike all those Japanese games where you have to lose and waste your time doing the fight again, which always was mind-boggling and unfun to me. Some scene are pretty tame in my eyes, but most of them are kinda hot, I liked them a lot.
I hope to see more games from you, as this one shows a lot of promise.
The spritework is a mixture of my work and edits of bought assets. I am not an artist, so I did what I could with what I had - I'm very slowly learning, but emphasis on slow. My attempts at art for the enemies in the game I deemed to be... detracting, at best.
I'm pretty happy with the combat system, so thank you! And mm, I kept the story linear for this one and let the side content be side content for the most part.
Yes! That's my solution to that exact problem. Making loss scenes less of a pain to enjoy. As for the content of the scenes, I tried to keep things generally crowd-pleasing for this, as it is essentially a demo of me, my framework, and my smut.
I'll be cooking up more soon enough, don't you worry!
Glad to hear you enjoyed it! I am more likely to make something new (and hopefully quicker) than to add more content to MERCANOID, but I may make a content update for it later in time.
As for Open Sourcing - Twine games by their very nature are modifiable. I can't prevent that, and I do not mind - but my code is extremely messy and will be difficult for most people to untangle, ahah...
PS: Likewise, I hope google's translation is adequate!

The writing is incredible, very good job putting the reader there. : )
Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed. ♥

Understandable, but it also wouldn't have been free if I would've had to pay for artists! Cuz I sure as heck can't draw, hah.
Okay... I've rescued everyone, my morale's at 100, and I've completed eleven side quests... should I keep hunting for side content or can I move onto Mimi without worrying about extra content?
You probably have everything, then! Did you get Meh, the snake girl? People tend to miss her.
No, I don't... but I've neither head nor tail on how to get her, nor where she is. Could I have a hint?
Edit: Nevermind, found her. Got it handled, thanks!
neat game. I liked it.
Glad you enjoyed! ♥
Hello I wanted to ask how prevalent is the mind control aspect in the game is
It features in a few scenes. It's not a central focus, but it's the focus of the scenes in which it appears!
Loved this game, the writing is fantastic! Looking forward to your next stuff
Thank you very much, and I'm thrilled you enjoyed the game! I'm hard at work on something new. ♥
Is this perchance inspired by Murderbot?
No idea what that is!
MERCANOID started life as a single scene (the Gulper bad end, actually) that I wrote to entertain myself on a trip away from home, aaaand things spiralled from there.
Would it be possible for you to make a downloable port for mobile?
Not presently, no, sorry. Don't have the design chops required to redesign this UI to play nicely on a mobile format. It works on a tablet in landscape as-is, but phones would require a signficant overhaul that's beyond me.
Good text game.

do you get anything special for sparing the goo girl that has jii'kii i tried but could not manage to do it am i missing something or am i fine?
Nothing particularly special, no! Just a different end to the fight, no scene unlock or anything like that. Don't worry about it.
thanks
even though i have 2 handiwork skill i cant give a zipper arm cannon a core booster says i have insufficient handiwork but it says it only requires 2 and before then it wasnt until i got more mats than needed that the message switched from not enough resources to not enough handiwork
Whoops, mistake on my end, it was set to 3. Will be fixed for next patch.
where does a Code Moo monster appear?
It's involved in the sidequest to rescue Professor Blankenship. It does not appear outside of this - it's a 'maybe someday' update goal.
Great game, only took two evenings/sessions to complete but the level, fight, and character designs as well as the writing were all superb.
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Does anyone know the code to the door of B3?
It's randomized every time you play. You need to find the individual portions of the code, all of which can be found in the northern sector past the firs Checkpoint gate.

Thank you very much for the kind words! ♥ I'm thrilled you enjoyed it that much. :)
Maybe I'm blind, but... Where is the fantasize menu? Is it in-game, or do I have to quit to access it?
Go to the Repair module back in the storage module! It's under those options, as mentioned by B4B3. Repair > Fantasize, as it's a method of restoring Focus.

Alas. 😭
I feel both envious and ecstatic.

I'll give a full review once I've finished the game, but for now I have a lot of fun.
Glad to hear you're enjoying it! And best of luck with your own project! ♥
Sudden question but how do you complete the Serene Selene quest?I have been going crazy over it.
Waiting with baited breath for it! (celebratory noises)
by the way, i kinda love the top gear reference you did. also, given the android can get "pregnant", i say the survivors you can save are lucky
Have you fixed the scrapping bug? where some items (like the monitor/computer) cannot drop under 1 when scrapped, allowing you to get essentially infinite materials for as long as your carpal tunnel can sustain it

You've got quite a knack for writing, you know that? Your descriptions paint the scene very well.
Very kind of you! Glad you enjoyed!
This was really good. Like, *really* good. You're talented.
Incredibly kind of you to say, thank you! ♥
My favorite scene was the initial testing of the new program with B4B3, and I wound up using the bow since I prioritized dex and dodging. by the way, i love the top gear reference you built in, gave me a laugh!
Oh...... A sufficient amount of text and excellent detail description incredibly outstanding! I really like winning can also unlock the scene.
And I saw a Mature, has the potential to RPG framework, it is difficult to imagine twee can do it to this degree.
um.....you're using Harlowe or sugarcube?
ps. Translated from Chinese, may be a little strange
Hello! This game was made in Twine 2, Sugarcube. Sugarcube's capabilities are generally considered to be easier to expand.
The game is built on my RPG framework, to be reused for future titles.
I am glad you enjoyed the game!
PS: I'm going to try translating this back, I hope I got it right!
Oh! sugarcube! I've seen many content-rich works choose it, it seems to be really suitable for freely expanding. I also want to try it.
I'm looking forward to the new content of this game, and I'm also hoping to see your new work - I haven't been this excited for a long time since Dawn of Corruption and Broken Dreams Correctional Center.
And...would you consider open-sourcing? Like...Fort of Chains (it's really a pity that this great work was discontinued) and Degrees Of Lewdity.
I'm glad you're happy about my compliments (anyway very happy), keep it up
:P
Ps. I hope claude's translation is accurate
就像……Fort of Chains(这个很棒的作品停更了真让人遗憾)和Degrees Of Lewdity一样。
我很高兴你会因为我的称赞感到开心(总之很开心),加油
:P
Glad to hear you enjoyed it! I am more likely to make something new (and hopefully quicker) than to add more content to MERCANOID, but I may make a content update for it later in time.
As for Open Sourcing - Twine games by their very nature are modifiable. I can't prevent that, and I do not mind - but my code is extremely messy and will be difficult for most people to untangle, ahah...
PS: Likewise, I hope google's translation is adequate!
Very glad I stumbled upon this.
I liked the breadth of characters, and especially the mechanic that lets you view the defeat scenes while still "winning".
Encore!
Glad you enjoyed it! I'm catching some rest at the moment, but I'll be making more stuff soon enough!
Amazing! I loved it! I 100%'d the game and would love to see more like it.
Thrilled to hear it. More is on the way!
Goddamn
♥
Excellently written smut, fun mechanics and combat, lovely characters!
♥
Eez very good. Descriptive, wry prose and spicy smut scenes. Some solid turn-based gameplay as well.
I'm thrilled that you enjoy it! ♥
M10, my beloved.
Do it for her!
